Rope Mallakhamb
Rope Mallakhamb is one of the most scientific ancient arts of making the body strong, supple, agile and healthy. On the pole/rope, performers twist their limbs to execute several hanging poses, horizontal and vertical balancing postures and yogasanas like the Shavasan, Paschimottanasan, Padmasan, Shirshasan, Ek Paad Shirisan. The manner in which the baby is turned, twisted and balanced on the mallakhamb keeps the spectators spellbound. Playing on the mallakhamb helps to develop ones speed, reflexes, concentration and co-ordination, Training of mallakhamb helps in practicing many other games which include wrestling, judo, gymnastics, Athletics, Horse-riding, Tennis etc.
Rope Mallakamba is a traditional Indian sport in which a gymnast performs aerial yoga postures and wrestling grips in concert with a vertical stationary or hanging wooden pole, cane or hanging rope.
Age is not an issue. Whether you’re 15 or 50, fit or fat, Mallakhamb can be tailored to suit your abilities and limitations. What is required for Mallakhamb on the rope, is good toe grip and on the pole, good thigh grip. The challenge here is that in the normal course, for most physical activities, our thighs and toes work vertically. In Mallakhamb however they are required to work laterally (to achieve the grip) and this skill takes time and patience to master.Expect your feet (esp toes), palms and thighs to feel sore for a few days.
